6 Clever Tips for Packing Clothes for Moving Day

Moving can be overwhelming, especially when it comes to packing your clothes. Clothes are often bulky and difficult to organize, but with a few clever tips, you can make packing your wardrobe a breeze.

Whether you are moving locally or out of state, here are six ways to pack clothes efficiently and keep them wrinkle-free during your move.

Use wardrobe boxes for easy hanging clothes

One of the easiest ways to pack clothes is by using wardrobe boxes. These boxes are designed with a built-in hanging rod, allowing you to transfer your clothes directly from your closet into the box without folding them.

Simply hang your clothes on hangers, place them in the box, and close it up. This method works wonders for items like suits, dresses, and blouses that tend to wrinkle easily. Plus, it saves time by eliminating the need to fold or iron them later.

Rolling clothes saves space and reduces wrinkles

Instead of folding your clothes the traditional way, try rolling them. This method is not only space-saving but also helps reduce wrinkles. Rolled clothes take up less room in boxes or suitcases and are easier to organize.

You can roll everything from t-shirts to jeans. This method also works well for items like sweaters and leggings. For extra protection, wrap delicate items in tissue paper before rolling them.

Use plastic bags for delicate items

For fragile or delicate clothes, like silk blouses or evening wear, use plastic garment bags to keep them safe.

Place each item in a separate bag and tie the bag closed to protect it from dirt, moisture, and potential tears during the move. Don't have garment bags? Use trash or dry cleaning bags to protect your delicate fabrics.

Pack shoes in their own boxes or bags

Shoes can take up a lot of space in your suitcase or boxes and damage your clothes if packed improperly. Instead of just throwing them in with your clothes, pack them in their boxes, bags, or even old shoe boxes.

You can stuff socks or small items inside your shoes to maximize space and prevent them from losing shape. If you don't have enough boxes, consider using large zip-lock bags for each pair of shoes.

Maximize suitcase space

Suitcases are designed for clothes, so why not use them to their full potential? Pack your clothes into your suitcase in layers, rolling the smaller items like socks and underwear and folding larger items like jackets or pants.

You can also use the pockets inside your suitcase to store accessories, shoes, or toiletries. If you're moving a short distance or have limited items, a suitcase can be a compact solution for your clothes.

Create a "moving day" bag with essentials

While packing everything, remember to set aside a bag or box with the clothes you'll need immediately on moving day. This should include a few changes of clothes, pajamas, and any outfits you need for the first few days in your new home.

You may also want to include comfortable shoes for moving, extra socks, and undergarments.
